Child porn electrician lands in jail

-

A GOLD Coast electrician asked for explicit videos from a 12-year-old boy and received more than 120 links to child abuse images, a Southport Court has heard.

Benjamin Brian Chaplin, 30, also told a teenager he wanted to have a sexual encounter with a seven-year-old boy but was “terrified” of being caught.

Chaplin pleaded guilty yesterday in the Southport District Court to 11 charges relating to child pornography.

Chaplin used the Kik messenger app to receive and share videos and pictures of child sexual abuse between three people – a 12-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and another male whose age is not known.

He asked the others to provide him with “hard-core little boy rape videos”.

The almost 40 requests were made between November 2016 and March 2017.

Judge David Kent sentenced Chaplin to three years jail with a parole release in nine months.

On his release, Chaplin will be placed on three years probation with the condition he undergo medical and psychological treatment.

“The requests (for images) were persistent and often in a five-month period and up to the search warrant being executed,” Judge Kent said.

The court was told a significant portion of the more than 1000 images and videos found on Chaplin’s phone were in the two worst categories.

Defence lawyer Michael McMillan said Chaplin was violently abused sexually when he was 11.
