GOOD BOY: RUFUS MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE

- MICHAEL SAUNDERS michael.saunders1@news.com.au

GOLD Coast social media star Rufus is more than just really, really, ridiculously good looking, he is also pretty switched on when it comes to his owner’s medical condition.

The five-year-old british bulldog has taught himself to become the rock that his mum Jenelle Stafford literally leans on when she feels like she is about to faint.

Ms Stafford suffers from neurocardiogenic syndrome, which causes her to faint at a moment’s notice.

This is where Rufus comes to her aid, sitting on Jenelle’s lap to anchor her and give her something to lean on.

“My fitness teacher has watched him try to hold my head up with his when this has happened,” said Jenelle, who is a professional photographer.

“Mostly he will always come and sit against me when I’m having an episode to keep me company.

“As a puppy he used to sit on me, usually on my chest or neck to ensure I knew he was close but considering breathing is one of the big struggles during an episode I’m pretty stoked he outgrew that.”

For his bravery, Rufus is the only Gold Coast pet in the running to become the nation’s official mascot of Amazon Australia’s Pet Supplies section.

If chosen, he will win a year’s supply of pet food and have his moment in the limelight with his face across the Amazon Australia website.
