STINGRAY STAYS ON RIGHT SIDE OF THE LAW

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

THREE years ago Kodie Fuller had a future of law ahead of her. Then she picked up a football.

Now the 22-year-old is packing her bags to fly to the US at the end of January after being signed by the Seattle Majestics Women’s Tackle Football Team.

After playing only roundball football, Fuller was ready for a change and took up gridiron three years ago.

“I had a friend in law school (at Griffith University) who played gridiron. I played soccer and wanted something different,” she said.

Not even her wildest imagination could have foretold what was to happen.

“I thought I would go further down the academic route but I’ve ended up going down to sport,” she said.

Fuller has been playing for the Gold Coast Stingrays as a wide receiver and kicker and is looking forward to pulling on the navy and neon green for Seattle.

“I’m pretty excited and am looking forward to the colder weather,” she said.

Fuller will play for one season (six months) before coming back to the Stingrays.

“I want to bring the skills I’ll learn over there back to the league here,” said Fuller, who may play more than one season in the US.

Fuller has seen success in her relatively short time in the sport, being part of Queensland’s Sun Devils team who were national champions.
