BEACH ONLY PLACE TO BE AS RED-HOT SUMMER HEADS OUR WAY
SUMMER is on its way and Gold Coasters can expect to swelter again.
Average temperatures for summer are predicted to be slightly warmer than expected, according to Bureau of Meteorology spokesman David Crock.
“There is a 70 to 80 per cent chance average temperatures for summer will be higher than normal,” he said.
“Latest climate outlook for summer is expected to be most likely warmer than average across the whole of Queensland.”
Mr Crock said the reason for the extra heat was due to the Pacific Ocean moving towards an El Niño – which is when winds slow down out at sea and cause temperatures to soar. There are no predictions of a bad storm season or overly wet weather, but the warmer temperatures will start to rise next week to about 32C or 33C.
This weekend will bring with it perfect beach weather conditions, with temperatures forecast for about 30 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday before dropping a couple of degrees for the start of the week.
