Declan loses for first time

GOLD Coast boxer Declan Corcoran has tasted defeat for the first time in his young amateur career.

After winning the Queensland titles, the 22-year-old headed to Perth in preparation for nationals where he took on Billy Polkinghorn.

The latter’s experience proved too much for the Nerang PCYC prodigy, though his camp believe it will prove an ultimately valuable learning curve.

■ THE Elite Australian Championships will be held on December 5-8 in Brisbane.
