BROADIE BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

- RYAN KEEN ryan.keen@news.com.au

GOODBYE Liar’s bar – hello The Broadbeach.

The Oasis Shopping Centre corner bar, formerly known as the Broadie Tavern, is being lapped up by locals after a megabucks makeover.

The major refurbishment involved gutting the entirety of the original venue and has been fully relaunched to the public.

In a three-stage reopening, the pokies gaming room was back online six weeks ago, the bar and bistro opened its doors two weeks ago and the final stage sports area launched last Friday.

It boasts two big-screen TVs as well as other smaller ones the beachfront side of the venue has been opened up with sea views.

Or as venue manager Adrian Costello describes it the slight relocation of Kurrawa Surf Club has “given us ocean glimpses”.

“It was a prime opportunity to get that terrace open. The Broadie needed a facelift,” he said.

“It has been a really hardworking hotel for many years for the group.”

The venue is owned by the giant ALH Group, which operates more than 330 licensed venues, including a number on the Gold Coast, and more than 550 retail liquor outlets in Australia.

“We have had a phenomenal response and the feedback so far has been nothing but positive.”

The Broadbeach hosts live music Thursday to Sunday, has 40 different beer taps and the bar is open seven days from 10am to 3am. It also has a coffee shop from 8am to 10am.

A public grand opening with a ‘house party’ theme is scheduled for next Friday, December 14.
