WHY OFFICIALS WANT TO EVEN THE PLAYING FIELD IN AFLQ’S JUNIOR COMPETITIO­NS

■ On the same weekend this season – August 17-19 – the Gold Coast under-12 Division 1 competitio­n included scorelines of: Tweed Coolangatt­a 53 d Palm Beach Currumbin 9, Southport 75 d Pacific Pines 15, Burleigh 80 d Carrara 20, Broadbeach 74 d Coomera 14, Surfers Paradise 82 d Labrador 23.

■ In Round 11 of the under-12 Division 2 competitio­n, Ormeau defeated Pacific Pines 66-6, Southport crushed Broadbeach 62-2 and Burleigh downed Palm Beach Currumbin 43-13.

■ The grand final of the under-14 Division 1 competitio­n resulted in a blowout win to Southport over Broadbeach, 70-13. The opening round of that season saw Surfers Paradise 61 d Carrara 1, Broadbeach 66 d Northern Rivers 6 and Pacific Pines 60 d Ormeau 0.

■ It was a similar story in the under-16s. In Division 2, Burleigh finished winless and scored 136 points all season. Conversely, Southport scored 938 points.

■ Round 5 of the under-15 girls league saw Southport 53 d Surfers Paradise 3, and Burleigh 61 d Ormeau 1. In the under-13s Ormeau scored 110 points across their 14 winless matches, while Burleigh dropped only one game all season.
