PAIR’S BIG PAYDAY

- TOM BOSWELL tom.boswell@news.com.au

FORMER Gold Coast couple Lincoln and Bianca Day have won a $1 million race with the only horse they have ever owned.

But confusion around their flight back to the Gold Coast nearly meant they missed out on watching Chapter And Verse win Saturday’s Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m), setting a new class record, previously held by legendary Queensland horse Buffering, of 1:14.85.

The Days were due to board a flight from Melbourne on Friday morning but some miscommunication with the airline left them stranded at the gate as the plane prepared to leave.

“The flight was closed when we got to the airport,” Lincoln Day said.

“We had to beg for them to let us on. We would have been disappointed to miss it.”

Luckily for the 30-yearolds, they boarded with children Felicity, Cohen and Mason and celebrated winning the race that carried $600,000 in prizemoney for the winner.

The Days lived at Ormeau, where they still own property, for five years before recently shifting to Melbourne.

They bought a 10 per cent share in the Desleigh Forstertrained Chapter And Verse, purchased at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale for just $28,000. “It’s huge. To move away and not see the last four runs and then fly here to watch was awesome,” Lincoln Day said.

Forster paid tribute to the Nolan family who bred the galloper at their Raheen Stud.

Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan Jr was killed in a farm accident in November.
