NO KEEPERS FOR AUSSIES ON AWARDS WORLD STAGE

MARGOT Robbie caused a stir at the BAFTAs arriving in a dress dubbed both “extra” and “bizarre”.

The 28-year-old Gold Coaster’s Chanel Haute Couture gown was dubbed one of the most divisive parts of the night, featuring a busy mix of tulle and embellished mix of jewels.

Some social media users defended Robbie’s choice in outfit, while others drew the comparison between the Mary, Queen of Scots star and “a flying fish”.

Nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in the historical drama, Robbie ultimately lost out to The Favourite actress Rachel Weisz.

Meanwhile, it was a case of another Gold Coast native missing out on an award – this time at the Grammys.

Former pro surfer turned DJ Paul “Fish” Fisher almost missed music’s night of nights altogether, the 32-year-old only making the Los Angeles awards show by the skin of his teeth after spending the weekend in rural Western Australia for former WSL surfer Taj Burrow’s wedding.

“We almost didn’t make it here mate,” Fisher told a red carpet reporter.

“We had to get a couple ’roos off the old runway to get here. Then I forgot my passport so I had to go back, get that thing, get back on the old runway and then here we are.”

Fisher was nominated for a Grammy in the

Best Dance Recording category for his hit Losing It.

The song was an unlikely success in 2018, finishing runner-up in Triple J’s Hottest 100 music poll.
