LE BROCQ’S TEKNO ROOKIES NO MORE
SUPERCARS TEAM READY FOR NEXT LEVEL
FOR Jack Le Brocq and his Yatala-based Tekno Autosports team, last year was about being the best of the five rookies on the Supercars grid.
They achieved that. Now among the 2019 challenges is trumping former series champion Mark Winterbottom.
Tekno and Winterbottom’s Irwin Racing are both single-car customer teams of Triple Eight, putting them somewhat on a parallel in terms of machinery.
They will also share a pit boom, meaning whichever car is ahead on track will receive crucial pit lane priority.
“I suppose we don’t have a teammate but those will be the first guys we’ll be trying to beat because we’re in similar equipment,” Le Brocq said at Tekno’s livery reveal at Arundel yesterday.
“Mark is always up there, he has won the championship, he knows how to do it. It will be cool to make sure we try to get one over him.”
Tekno have faced challenges including a steep turnover of staff – key figures Adrian Burgess and Campbell Little both accepted positions at Supercars – but they have a significant positive to be celebrating in that their new car is covered in sponsors. By contrast, Tekno entered the 2018 season without a major backer.
Le Brocq has not raced since the Newcastle finale last November but did take the chance last month to visit renowned driver coach Rob Wilson in the UK.
The 26-year-old will be back in action at the category-wide test day at Phillip Island on Thursday.
“I’m hanging out to get into the car. It’s been too long,” Le Brocq said.
