DV PROTESTERS GATHER OUTSIDE MURDER HEARING

- LEA EMERY

ARMED with signs, red and pink roses and dressed in black, a group of about 20 women gathered outside the Southport Courthouse to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Leading the rally was the aunt of Gold Coast cheerleader Breeana Robinson, who died after falling from a Southport balcony in 2013.

Ms Robinson’s aunt Janine Mackney said she was “disappointed” after the case against cruise ship singer Jayden Moorea, formerly Dan Shearin, was adjourned for five weeks.

Moorea is accused of murdering Ms Robinson and also stalking nine women in historical charges dating back to 1999. He was not required to appear for the mention, which lasted less than five minutes.

Moorea’s lawyer Chris Hannay, of Hannay Lawyers, asked for a full brief of evidence to be provided in relation to all the charges.

Police prosecutor Michelle Hussar said it would take police five weeks to pull together the evidence.

Mr Hannay said the evidence should be ready.

“They are historical charges going back to 1999,” he said.

“The evidence should be ready, they should be available.”

Magistrate Kerry Magee granted five weeks for the brief be provided and the matter was adjourned to April 12. The charges will also be moved to the specialised domestic and family violence court.
