SERENE COAST SWIMMING SPOT AUSTRALIA’S FAVOURITE

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

ONE of the Gold Coast’s most popular swimming spots has proved a hit around the country.

Tallebudgera Creek has taken out the title of Best Swimming Spot in Wotif.com’s people’s choice Uniquely Aussie Awards.

It beat other Gold Coast locations – Currumbin Rockpools, Burleigh Heads and Crystal Creek – to snag top spot in the 2019 awards.

Visitor Emma Liddy, 20, used her day off from university in Brisbane yesterday to enjoy the refreshing waters of Tallebudgera Creek.

“We just took a little road trip down for the day ... we had a stand-up paddleboard, so we thought it was the best place for it,” she said.

“It’s not as busy, it’s more secluded and we like the calm water to hang out for a long period of time. We had a little picnic as well, so it was just a nice chill day.”

Division 12 councillor Pauline Young said the win “reaffirms” what people living in the area already loved about it. “There’s a prominent natural beauty encompassing our pristine beaches alongside the headland reserve,” she said.

“It’s an ideal spot for kids to enjoy, protected from the wave zone and surfers.”

The famous Yatala Pie Shop was pipped for the award of best roadside pit stop by The Famous Berry Donut Van, NSW.
