A TOUCH of stardom has been added to the Gold Coast Marathon line-up with the addition of Bondi Rescue lifeguard Andrew “Reidy’’ Reid.

The 39-year-old TV personality has been announced as an ambassador for the annual marathon weekend, to be held July 6-7.

“I really can’t wait. Some of the runners coming are my heroes,” Mr Reid said.

Mr Reid, who struggled with his weight as a teen, said it was his discovery of longdistance running that set him on a path to good health.

“I weighed 107kg at my heaviest and started losing it by lapping my block,” he said.

Now an accomplished runner, triathlete and fitness advocate, he will be taking on the 42km Gold Coast marathon for the seventh time and encouraging Sydneysiders to venture north to join him.

“The Gold Coast Marathon has the perfect mix of serious and fun,” Mr Reid said.

“Sydney has its own marathon but people see the Gold Coast as a rite of passage.

“Thousands of runners vying for personal glory in a great holiday destination with a buzzing atmosphere – talk about good times.”

The lifeguard said he aimed to complete the course in under three hours for the first time on the Gold Coast.

“There is always such a great atmosphere and people push you along the way, I just can’t wait,” he said.
