Shoals comes on nicely

-

TRAINER Anthony Freedman is confident his top class mare Shoals is ready to challenge star three-year-old filly Sunlight in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley tonight.

“She’s won at Moonee Valley and I think from that draw she’ll race in a nice spot and put herself in the race at the right time,” Freedman said.

Shoals resumed from a spell with a second to Trapeze Artist in the Canterbury Stakes at Randwick last start.

Freedman said Shoals had improved since that run. “I’m happy with her. She’s come on nicely since then,” he said.

Shoals has won seven of her 14 starts, including three at Group 1 level, but hasn’t won in four starts as a four-year-old.
