SAUSAGE ROLL IN THE PARK FOR DOG LOVERS

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

TWIXIE and Dixie love to play tag.

Yesterday they had more than 30 friends to chase around and roll in the grass with.

Gold Coast group Dachshunds in Paradise held a meeting to support each other following the recent Storybook Farm scandal.

Last week, RSPCA Queensland raided the animal sanctuary rescuing almost 40 animals in appalling states of ill health.

But yesterday was about the sausage dogs and highlighting the love people have for their pets.

Long-haired Humphrey was happy sniffing around by himself while 14-month-old Mickey was reunited with sister Millie.

Mickey’s owner Kylie Marks saw Millie was a similar size to her dog and after chatting with the owners they realised their snags were siblings.

Amy Robinson organised the meet up as a positive way to get together and have fun with the dogs.

“We wanted to get together as way of supporting each other through this horrible time,” she said.

Ms Robinson said the group had fundraised for Storybook Farm.

“We’ve had dogs in our group that have gone to care at Storybook Farm,” she said.

Natalee Paine was horrified by what happened and went to the event with Dachshunds Twixie and Dixie.

Daughter Georgia, 9, said it was fun for the dogs.

“They like playing with all the other dogs a lot,” she said.
