Low speed chase at Tweed Hds

-

POLICE have arrested a driver and found a naked passenger after a bizarre police pursuit at Tweed Heads.

Police said that on March 20 around 6.30am, a blue-grey 4WD suspected of being involved in an offence at Kennedy Dve was detected.

The car was allegedly being driven without headlights as police followed the car onto the M1 heading south.

On the M1, the car was allegedly driven at just 70km/h in the 100km/h zone before attempting to take the Kirkwood Rd off ramp.

Police activated their sirens and lights, but the car failed to stop and instead continued at 50km/h on the highway with its hazard lights on.

They alleged it exited at the Minjungbal Dve at 40km/h in a 60km/h zone before turning into Machinery Dve and ignored a right-turn-only sign at the Amber Rd intersection.

The driver was arrested when he stopped in a carpark off Doyle Dve.

Another man was found naked in the back of the car.

The driver has been charged with possessing prohibited weapon, refusing to obey direction, negligent driving and aggravated break and enter. He is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on May 13.
