Surfers smash Knights

SURFERS Paradise flexed their FFA Cup muscle yesterday to move into the fourth round with a 9-1 thrashing of Brisbane Knights at Lex Bell Oval.

Burleigh Heads will join them in the next stage after beating Toowong.

The results capped a good weekend for Gold Coast teams in the cup, with Coomera (3-0 against Acacia Ridge), Southport (5-2 against The Lakes), Palm Beach (3-1 against Caloundra) and Robina City (7-1 against Centenary Stormers) all enjoying wins.

In Coast League One action on Saturday, Kingscliff edged Pacific Pines 2-1, Runaway Bay disposed of Murwillumb­ah 5-1, and Mudgeeraba beat Coomera 4-1.
