Man wearing only undies assaults police officers in supermarke­t car park

A NERANG man accused of injuring two police officers in an Aldi car park while wearing only his underwear has been granted bail.

The Southport Magistrate­s Court was told yesterday the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, arrived at the Aldi in Nerang in only his underwear demanding to see his former partner about 3pm on Saturday. The man now faces multiple charges including two counts of serious assault of a police officer.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Matt Brook said after a verbal fight he then began to throw things from his car. Police allege the man then threw the store manager up against the car when the man’s partner came to talk to him.

Sen Const Brook said when police arrived a struggle broke out. It is alleged that during the struggle the man pulled both officers to the ground, leaving one with a cut to the head and bruises on the nose and the other with bruises.

Both officers’ sunglasses were broken, it is alleged.

Magistrate Joan White granted bail with the only condition the man reside with his new fiancee in Nerang.

The matter will return court on April 26. to
