Churchill’s hat is gold

RECYCLING centres are not often destinations for historical artefacts, but David Rose has proved that one man’s trash is another’s treasure.

The tip worker found a top hat, cigar case and cigar that once belonged to Sir Winston Churchill. And along with them came 200 letters from his cook to her son, giving details about the wartime leader’s life.

Mr Rose brought his finds to be valued at the Antiques Roadshow at Eltham Palace in Greenwich, southeast London.

The whole collection was valued at £10,000 ($18,638).
