Brenda l cannot understand the thinking that all church people should be unfit for community service. Chaplains often work for low wages and extra long hours of voluntary service. They care about the welfare of the children. These qualities don’t always come with a university degree. They do a fantastic job in this broken world. Don't knock them. Pete

To the man with the Chinese wife. We don’t have super fast rail infra structure like China because Australia prides itself on safety first and quality of it’s trains systems similar to Japans train safety record. We also have only 25 million people in Australia compared to 2.5 Billion in China … GC Citizen

I agree with John Mc

Sentences handed out to these low lifes is pathetic. Judges need to get tougher our judicial system is a joke. Nanny J

Need a new battery for your car/ garage remote? Be warned that shopping centre key/shoe kiosks are charging $20+ per fob. A battery costs $4 so they are taking $16 (or $320ph) for what is a very easy 3 minute job! Scandalous.

5 years ago, the Chinese govt collaborated with many different countries … in at times very harsh terrain … and extended their rail network from west China to Europe. Our political mob, haven’t got the will, nous, know-how, money, balls or common sense to extend our heavy rail from Varsity Lakes to the GC airport. No Brainer.

Wake up Gold Coasters, approve and applaud all future tram tracks, (fast track them, no pun intended) Melbourne has had them for 130 years. An extremely excellent commute service system, as already proven by our very successful current light rail, Broadbeach South to Helensvale … Roll On.

Don’t worry Bulldog supporters, you will beat Titans, they’re a disgrace, reserve graders on A grade money. Embarrassing.

How can it be that there is only 1 minute silence for our Anzacs and past soldiers yet 2 minutes for victims from the NZ mosque attack??

Why do Governments promise all these goodies at election time when they have had plenty of time to carry out all of these while in power? Barney

Ken W I totally agree with you. When I moved to Surfers Paradise 17 years ago this was the best place in Australia.

Cheapest petrol prices, great property prices, fantastic lifestyles, plenty of employment plus much more. Sadly it’s all gone now. Thanks for nothing Labor and Greens. John Z

Huge difference in Social scene photos. Peter and Regina’s page all ladies dressed beautifully. Night Spotting pages mostly boobs hanging out or close to. Really! You can still look lovely with a little cover up. Mary. Elanora

Congratulations to Susie O’Brien on her article ‘Beers all froth and Bubble ‘ (GCB 23/3). As a Tooheys New can drinker and have been for 50 years I cant agree more all these new types of beers are only for men with hair buns and shaped beards. There was nothing better after work than having some schooners of New.

Come on D J Fraser, cant wait for your totally unbiased analysis of the New South Wales election. Should be riveting reading!.Peter, Pac Pines

Where on earth are ScoMo’s brains why in the world would he ask Stan Grant an ABC stooge to represent the Liberal Party? He would cause nothing but pain. Vern S

If Clive Palmer had something meaningful to say about this record heat on the Gold Coast then I might listen to his inane ads because I can’t cop it any longer. Ezza

The new definition of murder and associated mandatory sentence are not constitutionally sound as there are clear differences between the Commonwealth definition and the definitions of the other states and territories. Queensland seeks to impugn the integrity of the court and bind the independence of the court to administer justice as the court sees fit. Is this government trying to influence the court or pervert the course of Justice with legislation designed to undermine the Kable Principle and the Australian Constitution by stealth it’s certainly looks like it. Clearly this should be appealed to the High Court to test the constitutional validity of this questionable legislation of the Queensland government. Andrew Richards

Chicago city has 100 shootings a month, every month, and these numbers are down on recent years. Where’s the reporting of this in our news? But 1 shooting in NZ and our so called news services go bananas. Bigdog Carrara

Lea (letters, 23/3), there will be no “transition to renewable energy”. There has never been a transition from one energy source to another. When we invent a new one we keep using all the old ones, too. We started by burning sticks and we still burn sticks. Jimbo
