Heat hurts, CEO says

-

SOUTHS Logan CEO Jim McClelland has called on the QRL to avoid early-season day matches, labelling playing conditions for Sunday’s Intrust Super Cup match at Davies Park as “horrendous’’.

Norths beat Souths Logan 42-16 in a clash which started at 3pm and was played in 32C heat but McClelland’s concerns also extended to the under-18 (11.50am start) and under-20 games which preceded the main Intrust Super Cup encounter.

“For the sake of player safety, it desperately needs addressing,’’ McClelland said. “It is a concern, a major concern for the welfare of our players.’’

McClelland’s comments came after Norths coach Rohan Smith called for early season twilight matches to avoid the stifling heat.
