‘Hands off our Facebook accounts’

- PAUL WESTON

council information on personal accounts must be moved to the official page within 20 days.

“I think that at this point in time with the policy before us there some concerns about some of those aspects,” Cr Young said.

“I think we give ourselves a further opportunity to discuss it.

“We did have a workshop last year. There were a lot of issues raised.

“I still think some of those haven’t been properly responded to by the Department (of Local Government). It’s not against what’s been put to us at this time, perhaps fine tuning that.”

Mudgeeraba-based councillor Glenn Tozer yesterday said he intended to keep his Facebook page which predated his election to council in 2012.

“I won’t be deleting it. It is effectively my personal brand. There won’t be any migration (to the council official page),” he said.

Helensvale-based councillor William Owen-Jones on Facebook admitted it is a “vexed issue” but also intends to keep his page, started as a candidate in 2011.

He said he had used the page during the lead-up to the 2016 elections as a platform to promote his re-election and “in all likelihood I hope to do so again in the future”.
