SWIMMING SCHOOL LAWSUIT SINKS

- VANDA CARSON

THE owner of a failed Brisbane swimming school who unsuccessfully sued Olympic medallist Sam Riley’s company for

$1.4 million, blaming her for destroying his business by poaching customers, is in financial hot water.

Swim and gymnastics coach Alex Brown, 62, from Brisbane City is likely to be ordered to pay Riley’s company’s legal bill for defending his Supreme Court claim, the court heard yesterday.

After a four-day hearing earlier this month, Justice David Boddice yesterday ruled Brown’s claim that Riley’s company had poached staff and failed to provide training to him had failed.

Justice Boddice gave Mr Brown, a disability pensioner, seven days to argue why he should not have to pay Sam Riley Promotions (SRP) legal costs.

Justice Boddice also ordered Mr Brown to pay SRP $60,000 in rent owed.
