ENDURO RIDER ADAM CHASING HIS JUST DESERTS
GOLD Coast dirt bike endurance rider Adam Hill is set to take on another epic ride for charity, this time across one of the world’s most inhospitable Simpson deserts – and back.
The Currumbin rider will attempt to break the 21-hour record for the Simpson Desert double crossing next month.
The solo and unsupported ride in 40C heat will cover more than 2000 sand dunes over 1000km from Birdsville to Mt Dare and return.
But this isn’t Hill’s first ride on his trusty Honda XR650 and he’s confident of beating the record.
“I’ve done more than 80,000km through the Australian desert on the same bike including two charity rides and have been across the Simpson Desert four times,” he said.
“The challenges are the heat, sleep deprivation, dehydration and your outlook changes once you get exhausted.
“I’m always training so I’m pretty used to riding out in the desert now...”
In 2014, Mr Hill rode 5600km across Australia from Byron Bay to Steep Point in WA.
On his journeys Mr Hill has been raising money for the charity Red Dust, which focuses on supporting indigenous children in remote communities.
“In my bike riding I always pass through remote communities, saw the problems they face and saw Red Dust programs first hand,” he said. Help at reddust.gofundraise.com.au/ page/Crossingaustralia
