Rain seals finals spot

-

A LAST-round washout has ensured Helensvale State High School will get a shot at redemption in the Gold Coast District Rugby Super Schools Cup decider against Marymount College next week.

Helensvale were one of the premier teams through the first four weeks of the season but they could have missed a top-two placing had Merrimac clinched a bonus-point victory against them yesterday.

However, persistent rain forced the abandonment of all three Round 5 games.

As a result, the ladder will stay as is for the three-tier finals day at Bond University next Wednesday afternoon.

Marymount take on Helensvale for a chance to qualify for the statewide Ballymore Cup, having lost a 5-3 thriller between the sides in Round 2.

Merrimac will take on Ormeau Woods in the secondtier Plate final, while Miami and Hillcrest Christian College will play off for the Bowl.
