Our airport tops region

THE Gold Coast Airport picked up two gongs at the 2019 Skytrax World Airport Awards in London overnight.

In the Australian-Pacific region category, it picked up both Best Airport Staff and Best Regional Airport.

The awards are based on 13.5 million passenger surveys conducted at more than 550 airports globally.

Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer Marion Charlton said the awards were a credit to the more than 2200 people who worked at the Coolangatta precinct.

“What makes these awards so special is that we don’t selfnominate – the awards are based on surveys by the travelling public,” she said.

The Coast ranked 45th overall in the world, up from 55 in 2018.

The airport ranked third in Australia behind Brisbane (18) and Melbourne (23).
