SURFERS GETS READY TO DANCE THROUGH THE WEEKEND

- TALISA ELEY

SURFERS Paradise will be a flurry of bright colours and high-energy as performers take over the streets next weekend for a unique combination of dance, film and orchestral music.

The new Festival of Film, Music and Dance runs next weekend on April 6 and 7, transforming the Gold Coast tourism hub into a two-day Latin street party.

A range of short films, live music and dance performances will enliven Surfers Paradise through into the evenings by the foreshore.

Next Saturday from 4pm-6pm families can check out the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra performing theme songs from popular movies before the winners are announced for the SIPFest short film festival.

On Sunday night two classic Australian dance films, Dance Academy and Strictly Ballroom, will be shown on the big screen.

Surfers Paradise Alliance CEO Mike Winlaw said it was sure to be a big free weekend of entertainment for the whole family.

“This year we’ve put a lot of effort into some great displays by local dance schools and anyone who’s a lover of film music will love the Philharmonic Orchestra performing theme music,” he said.

“There is something on offer for everyone across the program.”
