Competition put on hold
THE Australian Surf Life Saving Championships were put on hold due to a possible shark sighting on Saturday.
The Bulletin was told an “unidentified marine creature” was sighted at North Burleigh beach just after 3pm.
Water activities were put on hold until 3.50pm when a decision was made to resume events about 4pm.
Water activities were cancelled for almost an hour.
About 1000 junior surf lifesavers were in the surf and beach for the competition at Burleigh, along with family and friends.
The iron man events were postponed until yesterday morning.
