BURLEIGH Heads resident Courtney Gilfillan has beaten Tokyo Olympic Games hopeful Gillian Backhouse to win the Kingscliffe Triathlon.

Gilfillan finished second to Backhouse in the 2017 edition of the Olympic distance race, consisting of a 15km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run, but beat the 2018 Commonwealth Games competitor by 2 minutes yesterday. Kieran Storch won the men’s category, beating Travis Coleman by 43 seconds.
