I need players who can play: Milosevic

A “DISGUSTED” Dean Milosevic has put Tweed United’s Premier League squad on notice after watching their horror 10-1 capitulation against Burleigh Heads on Saturday.

Desperate to bounce back from an 8-1 thrashing from Surfers Paradise in their previous Premier League outing, the Marlins delivered more of the same as Burleigh ran riot in the Round 4 battle at Pizzey Park.

In the end, David Mutch (three), Yuto Hayamizu, Matt Noble (two each), Ryuto Kondo, Russell Woodruffe and Nikki Felizatto all got on the scoresheet for the hosts, while Justin Bradley bagged a consolation for Tweed.

The margin was the biggest since the Premier League went from 12 teams to eight in 2013, leaving Milosevic, whose side showed signs of promise in a 2-2 draw against Broadbeach United in the season opener, searching for answers.

“I was disgusted (with the performance),” he said.

“I don’t think a junior footballer would come out and play that type of football. I don’t know what’s going on at the moment, I’m going to have to go back to the drawing board and try and find some decent players that can play the game. We gave them every single goal. We couldn’t clear our line, we didn’t want the ball, we couldn’t play with the ball. It wasn’t that Burleigh didn’t allow us do that, we did that to ourselves and gave them every single goal.”

Burleigh coach Colin Phelan pulled a selection surprise before kick off, leaving reigning Golden Boot winner Matt Hilton out due to injury.

However, he may be back for tomorrow’s 7pm catch-up fixture against Surfers Paradise at Lex Bell Oval.

With Coomera now looming for Tweed at Viney Park at 8.30pm tomorrow, Milosevic said the Marlins would need to lift to be competitive.

“It’ll be the same if we’re going to play the same style of football and not get in with a bit of heart and knowing how to play the game. We’re going to be in big trouble for the year (if we can’t).”

In other Round 4 games, Palm Beach picked up their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw at home to Surfers on Friday night, while Nerang edged out Coomera 2-1 at Glennon Park on Saturday.

Broadbeach edged a vastly improved Mudgeeraba on Saturday thanks to goals from Shaun Robinson, Josh Riis and Justin Watmough.
