Mayor: Surfer’s behaviour ‘un-Australian’

-

THE poor behaviour of a Gold Coast surfer has been slammed as “un-Australian”.

The Bulletin yesterday reported an angry surfer allegedly grabbed a volunteer lifesaver by the arm after being instructed to leave the area between the flags.

Three surfers, two believed to be in their teens, were out the back of the patrolled Miami Beach about 4.45pm on Sunday where they were seen surfing in between the flags.

Mayor Tom Tate yesterday took a hard line.

“There is zero tolerance towards our lifesavers,” he said. “It is about respect and anyone who is out there should not be near the swimmers.

“It is really un-Australian to abuse volunteers.”

Gold Coast chief lifeguard Warren Young also slammed the surfers and called for calm.
