Garbo free after death

SYDNEY garbage truck driver Ian Juurik was cleared yesterday of negligent driving causing death after he ran over a homeless man sleeping in Bourke Lane in Redfern, having mistook him for a pile of blankets.

Mathew Hayne had wrapped himself in a thin foam mattress on the street on May 21, 2018, before he was struck by the truck.

“It appears to him (Mr Juurik) as a blanket with no appearance of containing anyone,” the magistrate at Downing Centre Local Court said.
