Call to ban petrol cars
AUSTRALIA’S peak motoring body is calling for a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars as early as 2025.
The NRMA says the country is falling behind when it comes to adopting low-emissions vehicles.
“We can sit here in Australia and continue to fall behind or we can acknowledge the fact that the countries that build cars that we buy ... increasingly announce bans on petrol and diesel vehicles,” NRMA spokesman Peter Khoury told the ABC yesterday.
The bans would come into place between 2025 and 2030.
