MP zeros in on QRIC

-

GOLD Coast MP and LNP racing spokesman JohnPaul Langbroek is today set to speak out in State Parliament against the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, claiming most QRIC charges “do not stick”.

Langbroek said QRIC won five of 21 cases resolved by QCAT in 2017-18 and harness racing participants had often found themselves the centre of major headlines when charged but their acquittals gained very little publicity.

“The three racing codes need an integrity body but it has to be just, reasonable and responsible and charge wrongdoers only when evidence points to that,” he said.

Langbroek is also expected to table in State Parliament a photo of a haphazard start to an Albion Park harness race to spotlight one of many bushfires blazing in the state’s racing industry.

This week the hearing of more than 20 charges against Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie will take place as a protracted legal battle involving QRIC rolls on.

Next week is the oneyear anniversary of a raid on Currie’s stables but the matter remains unresolved.
