Derby tilt by NZ star

MADISON County could become the accidental hero of the Australian Derby at Randwick on Saturday.

The Kiwi three-year-old wasn’t among original entries for the classic. He was going to be sold overseas, then missed a crucial leadup race due to injury.

But Madison County’s closing effort to finish second in the Tulloch Stakes has convinced trainer Murray Baker to target the Derby in preference to the Doncaster Mile.
