KIARA’S REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
THIS tenacious 10-year-old isn’t tall enough to reach the car roof yet but she has already got the business sense to get what she wants, launching a car wash business to earn pocket money.
Pimpama’s Kiara-Lee Dowling was shocked when she was inundated with customers after doing a letterbox drop using homemade pamphlets and advertising on Facebook, offering to clean cars for the bargain price of $10.
Armed with cleaning products and a bit of help from mum Bekk Stanwell to reach the tall bits, Kiara-Lee has spent the last week washing, wiping and vacuuming around the northern Gold Coast with one very specific goal in mind.
“Kiara really wanted a Nintendo Switch but I told her they’re a lot of money and her birthday and Christmas are still quite far away,” Bekk said.
“She came up with the idea to earn it herself, she was really excited when people started booking, her face just lit up when she realised it had actually worked.
“When she was handed the first $10 it was like gold to her.”
There’s just one setback for the burgeoning entrepreneur.
“She can’t reach the roof of most of the cars, so I’ll be helping – we’ll have to get her a stepladder!” Bekk said.
In less than a week KiaraLee is already more than a fifth of the way towards her goal and said it has inspired her schoolmates to look for their own money-making schemes.
“This is really giving her a little glimpse of what it’s like to earn the money you get because I think kids these days tend to have so much handed to them and they don’t really appreciate the value of money,” Bekk said.
“Kiara’s already asking when she can get a proper job.”
