Spine expert to share findings

- EMILY HALLORAN

A LOCAL spinal specialist will be meeting with hundreds of leading world surgeons to share his two-decade long clinical study.

Spine Society vice-president Associate Professor Matthew Scott-Young has been collecting his data from his patients for the past 20years.

He will be one of 400 leading spine specialists from 40 countries around the world who are coming together to share their work and discuss the need for a National Spinal Registry.

“Having a carefully considered, well-structured, National Spine Registry collecting quality data will serve to further improve patient outcomes,” he said.

Mr Scott-Young is well known for operating on professional golfer Tiger Woods’ back, and for correcting botched surgeries for decades.

As well as the leading surgeons, more than 30 medical technology companies will showcase the latest prostheses and diagnostic tools at the 30th Spine Society of Australia conference.

The event takes place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from tomorrow until Sunday.
