TIME FOR A STRAY BATH – NOT ON YOUR NELLY

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

WHILE Nelly the great dane isn’t too keen on a bath, it sure beats having none at all.

The giant pup is just one of thousands of homeless animals that have come into the Animal Welfare League of Queensland’s care since the start of this year.

Today, the four-year-old dane will be treated to a posh pampering session as part of World Stray Animal Day.

All week the shelter has been celebrating the occasion, which seeks to raise awareness about the 600,000 homeless animals across the globe and encourage people to donate.

State rehoming manager Melinda Phipps said the shelter dogs had been treated to walks along the beach and pets being adopted will receive a free ‘Pampurred Pet Pack’ from Moo Goos’s pet product range, Dr Zoo.

“We’ve had these fantastic products donated to the shelter for the animals and anyone who adopts will get some freebies,” she said.

Dr Zoo founder Craig Jones said he hoped the products would help to form a strong connection between the adopted pet and their new owner.

“New pet owners are often a little lost or underprepared about how to best care for their furry friends and we want to help – we hope that using our products will help owners form those strong bonds early on,” he said.

More than 8500 stray animals came through the shelter last year.
