GUITAR THEFT SHATTERS SINGER
A GOLD Coast singersongwriter who toured with The Corrs has been left shattered after her unique red guitar was stolen.
Brooke Supple, who has been a back-up vocalist and guitarist for the famous Irish band and singer Sinead O’Connor, said the distinctive red Maton 808 guitar had travelled all over the world with her since she won it as a teenager in 2004.
Ms Supple said the guitar was taken from her Palm Beach unit between 1.30am8am yesterday after her male flatmate brought a date home from the Burleigh Hotel.
She believes the unknown person, believed to be a man about 185cm tall, took the guitar, its soft case and an empty hard case.
“It’s really hard to express,” she said. “I wouldn’t have cared if someone stole my car, my laptop or my clothes, but it’s the only thing I cherish.
“I just feel empty, it’s like my right arm. I’ve had it for such a long time … it’s always on TV or social media. It has so much sentimental value.”
Ms Supple won the guitar in 2004 in a songwriting competition. The singer used it to perform to the troops in Afghanistan and during Sinead O’Connor’s tour across America, Europe and in Australia, including the Sydney Opera House.
It has also been to renowned festivals such as the Tamworth Country Music Festival and Glastonbury in the UK.
Ms Supple also performed the national anthem at the Gabba this year and recorded her latest album with the guitar.
The alleged theft has been reported to police.
