Tigers leaders to roar into season

THE Labrador Tigers have announced their full leadership group for the QAFL season.

Recruit Alex McKay will be skipper Bryce Retzlaff’s vicecaptain while experienced midfielder Billy Hicks will be the deputy vice-captain.

Fellow recruit Daniel Middleton will round out the leadership group alongside John Boxer and Jacob Bottrill.

The group were revealed to the club at training this week after a deliberate and prolonged approach by the football department to give the players time to show their wares.

“We have been blessed with some recruits coming in. We are lucky to have someone of Bryce’s calibre as captain,” Tigers coach Liam Burke said.

“But also Alex McKay has captained and won a premiership in division one South Australian football in his own right and it’s the same with Danny Middleton who has captained his own club as well.”

The Tigers will begin their campaign tomorrow against Morningside at Cooke-Murphy Oval. Billy Hicks (knee) and forward Jake Goldsmith (osteitis pubis) but should return at some point in the first half of the season.
