Shark Shea sets clubs into frenzy

-

AFL clubs are already circling Southport recruit Jamison Shea, bolstering his hopes of becoming the next mature-age player to reach the top level.

The 192cm tall forward will likely play his first game for Southport this weekend when the club opens their NEAFL premiership season against Redland. Many big clubs across the country will be watching.

The Bulletin can reveal up to three clubs from Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia have expressed interest in the 20-year-old.

The clubs have been tracking Shea since he played in the TAC Cup for the Northern Knights in 2017 and during his stint with Western Bulldogs’ VFL affiliate Footscray last year.

Shea lives with Suns players Darcy Macpherson and Jack Bowes and was in the sheds to celebrate the AFL club’s win over Fremantle on Sunday.

Shea was told by recruiters at under-age level his contested football needed work and that was part of the reason why AFL clubs chose not to pursue him.

He was a lean 75kg but now weighs in at 87kg after putting a huge focus on gaining the strength needed to improve his weakness.
