BAY HOME IN ON NEW MILESTONE

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

FRESH off a debut win, NRLW star Rona Peters and her Runaway Bay teammates are ready to start again as they prepare for their maiden women’s home game.

The upstart Bay team defeated Carina 20-4 on the road in Round 1 of the SEQ Division 2 last Saturday; now they will host Aspley from 3pm tomorrow.

“The girls are a bit nervous. It feels like it’s their first game again but I think they will be more excited to be playing on our home ground,” Peters said.

Bay’s women’s and men’s players started the pre-season training together and that relationship has carried through to both sides supporting one another on game days.

“They get their first home game this weekend and our 20s, reserve grade and A-grade have planned a barbecue here and we’ll be getting behind them,” men’s A-grade coach Nick Gleeson said.

Peters, 30, added: “We have a good culture in our team and doing pre-season with the boys, the culture we got to share with them is something you don’t get often with men and women playing rugby league.”
