FILM WIN 10 YEARS IN THE MAKING

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

THE short flick crowned Best Film by a Gold Coast Resident at the city’s film festival has been 10 years in the making.

Birds of a Feather was created by stay-at-home mum and former graphic designer Bianca Nall, who first started writing the script a decade ago.

The almost eight minutelong animated film tells the story of a small bird who wants to befriend two pelicans, only doing so when one pelican loses his mate.

“I did not expect my family friendly, animated film to win over all these lovely live-action drama films,” Ms Nall said.

She worked on the film between studying animation, working freelance and raising a young family. Her children, aged four and six, were her biggest help.

“They love it, they were telling me that it was going to win and they were very proud,” she said. “They responded to the film, they understood the film, which said to me my message was getting across.

“My main message was to treat others how you wish to be treated.”
