WE’RE JUST LIKE FREDDIE

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has compared the Gold Coast to music legend Freddie Mercury as he announced Queen’s concert at Metricon Stadium.

Cr Tate, a self-confessed “diehard Queen fan”, said the Gold Coast should see themselves in the band’s lyrics.

“When you look at all the lyrics that Freddie writes and you reflect on that, he has that ‘have a go’ spirit,” he said.

“That’s why Gold Coasters really identify with Freddie, because he doesn’t care what other people think of him in those lyrics, and he said so.

“We’re unapologetic … the other thing I predict is that as we get closer to the concert there will be a lot of Queen parties going on in homes.

“Don’t be surprised if from now until February I end up growing a Freddie moustache.”

He added his favourite Queen song is I Want It All.

Queen will play Metricon Stadium

2020.

The Gold Coast concert is the last on the band’s Australian tour schedule, which begins at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on February 13 followed by dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Tickets go on sale next Monday through Ticketek. on February 29,
