Dixon hits top form in Roos’ win
TEEN Connor Dixon played the game of his short career to bag seven majors for Robina’s inaugural colts team in their Round 1 win over Coolangatta in QFA Colts White.
Full forward Dixon worked with inspirational captain Ethan Holahan and the energetic Liam Frizzell to help the side overcome early nerves at Eximm Oval on Saturday to triumph 8.6 (54) to 11.13 (79).
Robina’s promoted women’s side also tasted victory, beating home team Moreton Bay by three goals in Round 1 of QFAW Division 1.
Midfielder Meghan Purton earnt best-on-ground honours, combining with athletic captain Courtney Millington to send the ball to star forward Ros Manns, who nabbed five in the 3.5 (23) to 6.5 (41) result.
At Western Districts Oval, the Roos’ senior men whittled down Kenmore’s 22-point lead at the final change but fell 13.18 (96) 14.10 (94).
Versatile tall James Diggs backed up from the colts’ victory to be voted best afield with Troy Sutherland, who booted five, in the Round 3 encounter of QFA Division 2. In Robina’s other games, the reserves had a game to forget at Western Districts Oval, losing 23.23 (161) to 1.1 (7), and the women’s QFAW Division 2 South team found the going tough in Round 1 against hosts Mt Gravatt, falling 12.14 (86) to 0.0.(0).
