RISE AND RISE OF OUR TALENT

GOLD Coast’s next generation of smashing superstars have continued to shine at the Queensland Super 10s competition in Brisbane.

Super 10s is an exciting team tennis competition for aspiring and talented players aged 10 and under, aligning with Tennis Australia’s ANZ Hot Shots Green Ball stage.

This stage sees kids playing on a full-sized tennis court with a “Green Ball’’, which is a 75 per cent compression yellow tennis ball with a green dot.

This modification provides kids with a better opportunity to maximise rally length, court craft, swing patterns and increase fun.

Co-ordinated by Tennis Australia’s Queensland talent manager Anthony Richardson, Super 10s has a strong emphasis on creating a positive culture with players encouraged to focus on the values of fair play, teamwork and acknowledgment.

The competition features Queensland’s top 16 girls and top 16 boys aged 10 and under.

Among this pool of talent were four Gold Coast young guns: Nate Stoddart (Pro-One Tennis Academy), Fynn Busuttin (Somerset College), Elise Virr (KDV Sport) and Lucy Gotleib (KDV Sport).

The competition was held throughout March, with a trial day at Queensland Tennis Centre in Brisbane kicking things off.

Following this, players were selected into four teams.

Each squad, strongly guided by their team mentor, then played off against each other over the following three consecutive weekends.

The Super 10s competition has been an unforgettable experience of the Coast’s superstars and has only ignited their passion and dedication to the sport of tennis.

■ TENNIS Gold Coast’s Saturday afternoon grand finals wrapped up at the weekend, with GCA Performers duo Heath Breen and David Sist taking the Pennant 1 crown.

The full results will run in tomorrow’s Bulletin.

Tennis Gold Coast is sponsored by Synergy Resources Management.
