Borobi tattoo a reminder of Games joy

- KIRSTIN PAYNE

FOR many involved, the Commonwealth Games will leave memories to last a lifetime, but for others it leaves a little more.

Commonwealth Games volunteer Sonya Kreiskott left her GC2018 experience with a permanent souvenir – a tattoo of games mascot Borobi.

One year on Ms Kreiskott, an insurance broker from Ball- ina, says she has no regrets.

“The Games were one of the best experiences of my life, the attitude the excitement,” she said.

“I still meet up with people I met there.

“I was pregnant during the Sydney Olympics, so I was so excited when I was one of the Games Shapers chosen.

An enthusiastic volunteer, Ms Kreiskott said she decided to get her Borobi wrist tattoo only a few days in.

“I have a few tattoos already and thought why not celebrate the fact you were one of the few people who were picked to help.

“I thought if it was meant to be it would be, so I didn’t ring ahead to book or anything.”

Fortunately the Broadbeach tattooist was free.

“I have a few other tattoos, so this is a nice addition, I still love it and can look at it every day.

“My advice to anyone wanting to volunteer is do it.”
