Marathon’s rivalry is on

LONG-TERM rivals Kenneth Mungara and Yuki Kawauchi, who produced one of the closest finishes in the Gold Coast Marathon’s 40-year history, will face each other again this year.

Mungara, of Kenya, edged out Kawauchi, of Japan, by just one second to win the 2016 marathon after an epic sprint in the finish chute.

Gold Coast Marathon CEO Cameron Hart confirmed yesterday that Mungara and Kawauchi had entered the prestigious IAAF Gold Label Road Race event to be held on Sunday, July 7.
