GOLD COASTERS TO STAR IN MAJOR MUSICAL
GOLD Coasters will take centre stage for hit Broadway musical Wicked, which flies into HOTA in June.
After a nationwide search, the latest round of cast announcements has been made with Gold Coast actress Antonia Marr set to star as Nessarose. Marr, 33, is no stranger to the show, having performed as Elphaba in a shortened version of the production at Universal Studios in Japan.
“It’s quite fun that I get to come back to perform in the full show a decade later,” she said.
“I’m really excited for a scene change and Nessa’s character is extremely diverse and her death scene is the most iconic parallel between The
Wizard of Oz and Wicked.”
Fellow Gold Coast actor James Shaw has claimed the role of the Wizard of Oz.
Shaw will return home after a successful career overseas playing Harry in Mamma Mia
the Musical, Amos in Chicago, Collins in RENT and several other performances.
Another Gold Coaster, Tim Carroll, has been cast as Boq, Opera Australia star Shannon Foley as Dr Dillamond and YouTube personality and actor Trent Owers as Fiyero.
This latest casting comes off the back of the announcement Gold Coast girl Emily Monsma will play Glinda and seasoned performer Samanatha Dodemaide will be Elphaba.
The musical follows the story of the unlikely friendship between the young Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch.
The cast will be rehearsing full time before Wicked opens at HOTA on June 25.
