Shortcourse flyers rev up for Bat Out Of Hell

- MARK OBERHARDT

TWO of Queensland’s best shortcourse sprinters, Tarzan and Whypeeo, are headed for a clash on the Gold Coast to decide who is unofficially the fastest horse in the state.

The duo have trialled well at the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast respectively ahead of the $105,000 Bat Out Of Hell (900m) at Aquis Park on May 4.

Tarzan won his trial over 850m on a wet track yesterday, holding out handy galloper Victory Eight.

The gelding counts a course record over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast and a victory in the Listed Queensland Lightning in his 11 wins.

The Toby Edmondstrained Whypeeo ran second to new stablemate Keen Array in a 1000m Gold Coast trial on Monday. A Group 2 winner of the 2017 Gilgai Stakes when trained in Victoria, Keen Array ran down Whypeeo in the final 150m.

“Whypeeo always trials well so I was happy that Keen Array could get past him,” Edmonds said.
